Welcome to Miss Poalino's Room
School Wide Program at OVS
The School Wide Program at the Orwell Village School is funded by federal funds. My position and that of my assistant, Marcy Hart, are funded to help teachers provide differentiated instruction in grades Kindergarten through grade 8. Each year both the classroom teachers and myself prioritize the needs of students in each grade. Language arts and mathematics are the subjects of focus. Having assistance in each grade for reading and math is the goal, but due to scheduling, student needs, and other constraints this is not always able to occur. Through collaboration among classroom teachers and myself schedules and lesson plans are developed. Services are provided within the classroom and through small group instruction out of the classroom depending on the needs of the students. Ms. Hart and I run a homework club from 3:00 to 3:30 everyday. Approximately 15 to 20 students in grades three through eight attend daily. Some days more attend and some days such as Friday less attend. Attending is an option for any child in any grade. Assistance is given to those who need it. Some children attend to have a quiet place to complete homework so they do not have so much to bring home. Other children come as an accommodation to a plan they are on that allows them to achieve better in school. In some cases, one to one or small group tutoring may be supported through the School Wide Program. Also many clubs such as math, science, cooking etc. are supported. The Educational Support Team (EST) closely monitors many of the students in the School Wide Program. They are entitled to have a 157 Plan. This plan is developed to allow students to find success throughout their school day. Some plans help students with academic needs and some help with behavioral needs. Teachers need to be mindful of the accommodations when planning their lessons so all students can experience success. Please feel free to call or visit.
