Welcome to Seventh Grade

Grades 7&8 Language Arts and Social Studies

Grades 7&8 English classes revolve around the study of grammar and spelling. They also are required to write portfolios. The portfolios are split between two grades. The portfolios include reports, Response to Literature, Persuasion, Procedure, Narrative, and Personal Essay.

Grades 7&8 Reading classes include the study of short stories, poems, essays, and novels. We look at plots, settings, characters, conflicts, and other topics. Vocabulary is also a focus. The novels, for the most part, tie into the Social Studies classes.

Grade 7 students study Geography. At the beginning of the year, there is a heavy focus on map studies and the world in general. We then begin studying individual countries. The United States is the first country and then we branch out to the other countries of the world.

Grade 8 students study American History. Our study begins with early civilization and how this country became populated. Then we continue with early exploration and colonization. Our study continues with pre-revolution and the Revolutionary War. We look at the Constitution and later years leading up to the Civil War.

Current Events: Both seventh and eighth grade students are expected to stay current with events that occur nationally, locally and globally. This is done on a once a week basis.
